About Hornell Partners for Growth

Allow us to help you understand who we are at Hornell Partners for Growth!

Hornell Partners for Growth is a non-profit organization that was established in 1997, tasked with the beautification, maintenance of areas, Christmas decorations, development and promotion ofthe Hornell area -- a community of small business owners and owners of commercial properties who are happily providing services and commerce to their customers in the beautiful City of Hornell.

Now – 15 successful years later! – HPG continues to accomplish those tasks and the goals of its Board of Directors, and, furthermore, has forged a leadership role in the community by articulating strategic alternatives, coordinating special events and facilitating the beautification of Hornell.

HPG was established as a Business Improvement District (BID), District Management Association, which means that all of the businesses within the boundry lines have formed a partnership with a common mission. HPG’s mission was determined to be to “lead the businesses’ efforts in … their pursuit to improve business climate and customer satisfaction."

HPG is 100% committed to its goal by:

   * supporting area merchants through driving consultative, effective relationships with local and    county governments, established businesses and welcome new merchants.

  • providing a wide range of knowledge which can enhance sales and help  customers have a terrific shopping experience.

Some of HPG’s most prominent efforts are:

  • HPG Dollars

The HPG Dollar Gift Certificate Program continues to grow in popularity! The purpose of HPG Dollars is to enhance the community economy by keeping locally-earned dollars in the Hornell economy. They are like district-wide gift certificates for which the merchants are reimbursed. HPG Dollars can be redeemed by consumers at any of the 250+ businesses in the Hornell area, thus reinvesting the dollars in the community. Supporting locally owned businesses – a message HPG actively promotes -- is a choice that leads to a higher quality of life for families, friends and neighbors. During the past year, a collaborative approach was utilized to engage the personnel departments of area employers to make use of the HPG Dollar Program for gifts to employees. Alstom, Inc. and St. James Mercy Hospital --  two of the Hornell area’s largest employers -- have purchased and distributed HPG dollars to their employees. We have processed over $450,000 of HPG dollars. (Please call ahead to order HPG Dollars) 607.324.9786.

  • Local Events

Events sponsored by HPG have a multi-tiered purpose. First, HPG events are structured to raise awareness of the benefits that independent businesses offer to the community. Second, HPG events cultivate the customer bases of local merchants, presenting them with new shoppers from Hornell and the surrounding communities. Events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Farmer's Market,Sidewalk Sales,July 4th in the Park, Festivals, Trick or Treat night, Flowers and Holiday Aglow when Santa Arrives in Downtown Hornell. We remind the local residents and visitors that their local businesses are committed to the community that supports them all year long. HPG is tasked with owning and maintaining all the beautiful Christmas decorations through out the City, including the 26' Christmas tree. We own over 100 decorations around town.

  • Beautification Efforts

Beautification efforts for Hornell are always a high priority because inviting, clean and attractive streets enhances the shopping experience for residents and visitors. These easily-recognized efforts spur economic development, improve quality of life and enhance customer perception of the community. HPG takes great pride in its business district and is extremely appreciative for the City staff and volunteers that joined forces to keep the city looking beautiful.

  • Business Recruitment & Retention

The economic growth of the district depends on the development and implementation of strategies that focus on this community’s unique strengths. Thus, HPG continues to work with the City of Hornell’s local agencies to complement the district. Outside business prospects that are considering a move to the Hornell area have extensively utilized HPG’s space portfolio over the past year.

  • Professional Recognition

HPG honors from time to time local professionals for their contributions to the growth of the Hornell community. Honorees are chosen for their outstanding contributions, exceptional business performances, and valuable commitment to improving the quality of life in Hornell.

I have tremendous confidence that with each passing year, we will offer new experiences and accomplishments that will help Hornell Partners for Growth's businesses thrive. I would like to thank the HPG Board of Directors for their past and future support. Enhancing the “Hornell experience” has been a wonderful team effort.
